Dark Star Park Day

The Dark Star Park Day Festival will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the park, an internationally recognized work of public art. The artist who designed the park, Nancy Holt, will be present at 9:32 am to watch the spheres and poles of the park create a shadow alignment – a once-a-year event on the day in 1860 that William Henry Ross acquired the land that became Rosslyn.

A unique partnership between local artists Luke Idziak and Rob Lindsay and young mechanics from Phoenix Bikes led to the transformation of two industrial tricycles into pedal-powered kinetic sculptures that will be on display at this year’s World Music Festival.

German sculptor Bonifatius Stirnberg of Aachen, Germany has recast his sculpture Spielschiff (Play Ship in German) from molds he originally used to create an identical piece in 1979 for Aachen, Arlington’s sister city.
